We will be working alongside the incredible local non-profit Long Way Home for the second half of the week. Long Way Home is a registered US 501(c)3 that has been serving Comalapa for 20 years. Their mission is to mobilize people to actively participate in democracy and create innovative pathways to economic and environmental justice, through green building, employment, and education. During our time in Comalapa we will work in small groups to build smoke efficient stoves for local families.

When you’re around Hannah’s energy, whether it be her role as a facilitator, an organizer, a leader or a friend, you can trust that you are in excellent hands. I have been on several trips that Hannah has organized. One that comes to mind was a “voluntourism” trip in a remote area in Guatemala for a group of 25+ adults. She covered every possible detail, from lodging, meals, adventure and fun and of course, the project itself. ”

March falls within the dry season, and the weather tends to be warm and pleasant.

While temperatures can vary, the average daily temperature in March typically ranges from around 55°F (13°C) to 75°F (24°C). It will cool down in the evenings, especially while we’re in Comalapa.

The first four days at the lake are focused on rest, connection and reflection.

We’ll start our day with breakfast around 9:00am with 1-2 group activities/workshops per day (approx. 4 hours facilitation daily). The itinerary includes 1 free morning, 1 free afternoon and 1 day excursion on the lake. Embodiment practices will be sprinkled around group activities and meal times.

The last 3 days in Comalapa are focused on service and culture immersion.

After filling our cup with rest at the lake, we’ll pour from our overflow, starting our days a bit earlier with breakfast at 8:00am. We’ll be of service to Long Way Home during the day and rest and reflect in the evening. We will weave in embodiment practices and hold a closing circle the last evening.

We will be staying at a beautiful boutique home in Santa Catarina Palopo

This 5 bedroom, 5.5 bath home features a sauna and pool with a stunning view of the volcano on Lake Atitlan. It’s about 3 hours from the airport and about a 10 min drive from Panajachel, a central hub for Lake Atitlan. All rooms are double occupancy or you can upgrade to have a private room for $1000. There is no guarantee that the wifi will work and I recommend fully disconnecting from work and home to get the most out of this experience.

We'll be hosted by a Guatemalan family at Comalapa Sol.

Our last 3 nights we’ll be staying at a more rustic/basic homestead owned and operated by Feliciano the local hardware store owner and his family. There are 4 bedrooms, so expect 2-4 women per room, including some bunk beds. We will share 3 bathrooms, and a warm shower isn’t guaranteed and wifi isn’t guaranteed.
